The problem
Access to healthcare in Uganda is uneven. Patients in distress often do not know who to call. Verified pharmacies are not always nearby. Ambulances are hard to reach. There was no single platform connecting the demand side (patients) with the supply side (verified providers) in real time.
What we built
We built themobiledoctor.com as a PHP web app plus a Capacitor mobile app for iOS and Android. Patients open the app, see verified doctors, nurses, therapists, ambulances and pharmacies near them, and can call or message in one tap. Providers verify their identity once, then receive requests routed by proximity and specialty. Payments via Mobile Money and card. The whole system is bilingual (English and Luganda).
The stack
PHP 8 + MySQL backend, REST API for the mobile clients, Capacitor wrapper for App Store and Play Store, Pesapal for payments, Twilio for SMS verification. Hosted on Baasa Cloud Ultra with CloudFlare for caching and DDoS protection.
“The platform has been a lifesaver, sometimes literally. Patients can find a verified doctor in minutes, in their own language.”
