In January 2026, internet access across Uganda was temporarily limited. Many people were unable to use common online services such as social media, emails, messaging apps, websites, and video platforms.
The restrictions affected mobile internet, home and office connections, fibre networks, and some satellite services. For most users, normal online activity stopped.
Only a small number of systems continued to work. These included hospitals, banking platforms, tax and immigration systems, utilities, and a few essential government services.
Some satellite internet services were also suspended, removing alternative ways to stay connected.
At the same time, several organisations were told to pause their operations. Their online work, communication, and access to funds were affected, causing delays and uncertainty.
For businesses and professionals, the impact was immediate. Online payments failed. Cloud tools could not sync. Customer communication stopped. Remote work became impossible.
These events show how dependent modern work is on stable internet access.
At Baasa Cloud, we help businesses think beyond “always-on” internet. This includes secure backups, offline-ready systems, and simple digital setups that reduce disruption when connectivity is limited.
Digital access is part of daily life. When it is interrupted, preparation matters.
